One of the questions which all of our students ask is – how to manage time? How to make a study time table or how many hours to give to study, homework, and other tasks at hand.

For this, we suggest the students to make a timetable. A timetable is of great help when it comes to maintaining discipline and achieving our goals. It can also help us gain confidence and thus avoiding panic before exams.

While we always tell our students that a study timetable can vary from student to student, and that you all should make a time table for yourself, based on your schedule; we will help you with making a timetable – we will tell you things to include in your day, things to take care of and how much approximate time to give to which activity.

1. Block your school time
2. Block your study hours – make sure to study at times when you are most energetic. For some students, it works when they study early morning. For some, it may work at evening. However, try not to study just after you come back from school as your brain may be tired at that time, and you may be lethargic. Use this time for activities that make you feel refreshed – like playing outside, taking a walk, pursuing a hobby like drawing, etc.
3. Block time for other activities – sleep, having breakfast, lunch, etc
4. Block time for breaks – do not underestimate the importance of a rejuvenating break. It has been scientifically proven that if you study in small session of 20-30 min, followed by a break, then again study for 20-30 min and so on, then your mind grasps everything better. You are able to understand deeply and you also don’t feel tired or burdened.
5. Block time for pursuing your hobby – this again is very very important, and should not be ignored. Once in two – three days, you should pursue your hobby and do activity that makes you feel happy and refreshed. This may be different for different students – some may prefer playing outdoor like cricket, football; some may prefer playing indoors like chess; or some may prefer other activities like drawing, DIYs, singing, etc. Do whatever makes you happy! In addition to this, doing exercise/yoga is also a good thing – you can do this once or twice a week.

Do not forget to leave some buffer time – it may so happen that you get involved in other things during the days like relatives may come over, you may go out with your family and lag behind in your studies. We suggest you keep some buffer time on sunday to make up for this lost time and catching up.

Planning your study time – now, the success of your timetable depends also on how you plan your study time – what you plan to do in 2/3/4 or whatever number of hours that you have put aside for studying. Let us see how to do this.

1. Plan your subjects – try to plan beforehand as to which subject you will study when. If you know you have Maths exam on Friday, plan to study maths on Thursday. Doing this on a weekly basis, you will be able to ensure that you give time to all your subjects and do not ignore any subject.
2. Prioritize subjects – you will be familiar with your weak and strong points. Give more time to subjects that you are weak at.
3. Study a combination of subjects – it may happen that you cannot study a particular subject for 2-3 hours. It is completely understandable. So try to study a combination of 2 subjects per day – one that you like and one that you find tough. This will help maintaining a balance and not make you feel burdened.
4. Set realistic targets – do not plan to study more than you think you can. You must be well aware of how much you can finish in a day. Do not plan to study more than that. Set achievable goals and then stick to them.
5. Do not waste any day – most students tend to study a lot before and during exams, and hardly study during start of session. When your new session starts, you may not be taught much in school, and this is the best time for you to self study. You can watch videos on our app for all concepts covered in NCERT, make notes and try to understand it on your own. This way, when this topic will be covered in school, you will gain an even better understanding of the concept. This will definitely help you during exams – when you will just have to revise a topic.
