Here are a few tips on preparation for  JEE by Avanti experts:

  1. Make a study plan – How does a study plan help? There are some topics out of your syllabus that you know well, and some that you don’t. You need to strengthen your weak topics, and revise the strong ones. So start planning – count the number of days from today to your exam, and decide what you will study when. Make realistic plans – do not think of studying entire chemistry in one day. Moreover, stick to your plan.
  2. Focus on concepts – Do not cram. You may think it saves time, but it is not the best way to gain marks. There’s a high chance you may forget what you have crammed. Moreover, most of the questions in JEE are of conceptual type, which cannot be answered unless you have understood the concept well.
  3. Prioritize topics – Analysis of previous years’ papers makes us understand which topics are more important than others – make sure you are thorough with them. We have created such analysis videos for previous year JEE exams which are available in the Gurukul app.
  4. Managing JEE and boards – The concepts in JEE and boards are same. However, the type of paper differs. JEE is objective & more conceptual while boards is subjective & theoretical. If you study for JEE sincerely, you would conceptual clarity which would help in clearing boards as well. JEE Main is held around mid January. You should focus on studying for JEE exam first. After your JEE, you will have a good 1.5 months to study for practical exams and boards, which start in the first week of March.
Avanti Gurukul app has detailed videos of all concepts of PCM for JEE. Utilise all resources to gain maximum benefit.
  5. Solving previous year papers – This is the most important point to keep in mind – Practice is the key to clear competitive exams. After studying a concept, solve as many questions as you can from that concept. This will give you an exposure to different types of questions so that you don’t get any surprises in the exam hall.
In addition to solving questions, make sure you practice and attempt a lot of mock tests as well, and time yourself. Timing is very important in JEE and all competitive exams. You should try to improve your timing every day till the exam day.For practice, you should use Avanti’s IIT JEE Test series, which contains curated questions as per JEE level.
  6. Maintain your schedule – during holidays or school days, your schedule would be different from exam day. Maintaining same schedule as on the exam day is very important – it will help you keep active and fresh on the exam day.
How to you start maintaining the schedule? From atleast a month before the exam, start sleeping on time. If your exam is at 9 am, you should leave your home atleast an hour before (more if you live far away). And you will need to wake up an hour before that – to get ready and have breakfast. So start sleeping at 10 every night, and waking up at 7 am. Ensure that you have a good night’s sleep and a sumptuous breakfast.
If possible, try to give mock tests at the same time as the actual paper.

Test centres will be set up by NTA all over India to help students familiarize themselves with online form of attempting the paper, and will also serve as a mock test for them. We encourage the students to take advantage of this facility and definitely visit a test centre  well before the exam.

Keep studying and learning.

All the best!
