The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is an Education Board for Public and Private Schools, which functions under the Government of India. CBSE is one of the most extensive school boards in the world. It covers more than 17,000 schools in India, as well as, about 200 schools in 25 other countries. Apart from school level examinations, CBSE is responsible for conducting a majority of National Level Competitive exams in India. CBSE adheres to the NCERT curriculum only.

A total of about 17000 schools are affiliated to CBSE.
The schools which are seeking permanent affiliation must follows the bylaws of the board in implementing the CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) based education system till Std. 8; No provisions of home work till Std 2; Proper Maintenance of Internal Assessment and Academic Record. Also the average result of the school for the last three years must not be less than the prescribed Board’s Average in the CBSE Class 10 Examination.
CBSE Board Exam Pattern for Class 10th.
- As per the latest exam pattern, there will be an Annual examination based on the entire syllabus.
- The annual examination will be of 80 marks, and 20 marks weightage shall be for internal assessment. The internal assessment is divided into – Periodic Test (10 marks), Notebook Submission (5 marks) and Subject Enrichment Activities (5 marks)
- The learning areas will be as follows:
(1) and (2) Two Languages out of:
Hindi, English, Assamese, Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Marathi, Malayalam, Manipuri, Odia, Punjabi, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Lepcha, Limboo, Bhutiya, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Nepali, Tibetan, Mizo, Tangkhul, Bodo, Bahasa Melayu, Gurung, Japanese, Rai, Sherpa, Tamang and Thai.
(3) Mathematics
(4) Science
(5) Social Sciences
(6) Work Education
(7) Art Education
(8) Health and Physical Education
Students may also take any one of the offered additional subjects.
CBSE Class 10 Syllabus
The CBSE Class 10 syllabus has been declared for the new academic session. The revised CBSE class 10 Syllabus issued by a new circular is applicable for all the public schools affiliated to the CBSE including the Delhi administration schools, KVS and NVS. CBSE Board Exam Grading Pattern For Class 10th
Refer the below mentioned table:

- All students are awarded grades and not marks.
- The board will not declare Compartment/Fail for any student securing low marks, it has been discontinued.
- The result of the students will be declared in two categories: A) Eligible for Qualifying Certificate (QUAL) or B) Eligible for Improvement of Performance (EIOP).
- Students will now get an opportunity for improving their performance without hampering a year.
The Board Examination for 80 marks in each subject will cover 100% syllabus of only Class 10. The examination paper will be designed for a 3 hours duration. Marks and Grades both will be awarded in each scholastic subject and a 9-point grading system, as followed by the Board in Class XII will be applicable. For awarding the grades, the Board will put all the passed students in a rank order and will award the grades as follows:
A-1 Top 1/8th of the passed candidates
A-2 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
B-1 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
B-2 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
C-1 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
C-2 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
D-1 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
D-2 Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
E Failed candidates
- Minor variations in proportion of candidates to adjust ties will be made.
- In case of a tie, all the students getting the same score, will get the same grade. If the number of students at a score point need to be divided into two segments, the smaller segment will go with the larger.
- Method of grading will be used in subjects where the number of candidates who have passed is more than 500.
- In respect of subjects where total number of candidates passing a subject is less than 500, the grading would be adopted on the pattern of grading and distribution in other similar subjects.
Preparation Tips for CBSE Class 10th Examination
The very first step to be successful at anything is to get focused. You should have a plan and a fixed routine, in which you strike a balance between everything, depending on your strengths and weaknesses. Be judicious in deciding the time you put for your preparation, your sleep and other daily activities. You should be diligent, remember that there are thousands of students preparing along with you, thus to ensure that you are a step ahead, you should be industrious and focused: it will help you to secure grades in your final exam. Here are some subject wise tips that could be helpful during preparation:
English:
Students tend to lose marks in grammar and writing sections, thus you are advised to focus on the same. You should practice writing sections and practice papers along with grammar questions such as editing and omission of paragraphs. These require practice and one should be thorough with the same.
Mathematics:
At the core of Mathematics is concept building. So focus on understanding rather than learning. These basic concepts will be used for your future studies as well, so getting basics right is important. Be thorough with the formulae. Stick to the NCERT and solve all the questions from the same. Science:
Again, same goes with Science, focus on basics, as these are formative years, your base should be strong pertaining to all three subjects Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Social Science:
Understanding the subject will help you retain better during the exam. Please don’t focus a lot on mugging. Try your best to build understanding, about events etc.
Hindi:
This is one of the most scoring subjects but one should practice a lot. Practice previous year’s papers and be sure with grammar rules.

The CBSE Class 10 result will be declared latest by the first week of June 2018. The much awaited result for the CBSE 10th was declared on 3rd June 2017.
