Hesitation due to location of Dhanbad

When I was selected as an Avanti fellow, I did not have the slightest idea of what I would do in future. Everyone said you had potential, you should prepare for an IIT-JEE Examination. They all had only a rough idea that I would be doing Engineering and my life would be much smoother than. None of them told what exactly I would be doing in there. Two years went from studying, giving test series in classes. I got an admission in ISM Dhanbad. I googled it, went through its placement details. Everything was beautiful. The thing which haunted me the most was its location. Then I called my sire and asked him whether it is a right decision to take admission in Dhanbad or I should apply for NITs. He told me it’s not the place that matters, what kind of people reside there matters the most.

The best decision I ever made

Finally, I was in ISM Dhanbad. On the very first of my college, orientation program was held where our faculties met with our parents and told about the institute, our department. They told us about the branch related stuffs. In Ism I was confronted with a new term, senior-junior relationship. It’s the best thing in our institute, we got every single piece of information from our seniors.There are various clubs, societies in our college. Firstly, I was confused what club to join? Which society should I prefer? I asked various seniors about the clubs, societies. There was only one answer join as many clubs as you can, because in the first year you would have enough time to develop your skills. From each club you would learn new things. And then decide what club or society you should carry on with.

Extra Curriculars at ISM Dhanbad

I had joined two clubs LITC and Kartavya. In Kartavya I teach local students of Dhanbad maths and science. With one of my friends, I started working on arduino. During our annual technical Fest various workshops were held. I did a workshop on RC Plane, and a paper presentation. One could even develop his interests in cultural activities. We even performed a Nukkad Natak which was organized by an NGO working in our college. During fests, we get to know what management is. In our college, every year a fest is held named ‘Basant’, which is the alumni festival of ISM Dhanbad. I interacted with them and asked them about their experiences in various companies. Interacting with them helped me get a little insight what work they actually do in there.

During my first semester people used to say GPA is not that important, just improve your skills. But when I searched for several trainings, internships, the first eligibility criteria for a selection was nothing but a good GPA. So, always try to maintain a decent GPA from the beginning itself. At last I want to say one thing to my fellow friends –Try to do a new thing every day. Be it big or small. Just do it consistently. Because success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.
