The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is an Education Board for Public and Private Schools, which functions under the Government of India. CBSE is one of the most extensive school boards in the world. It covers more than 17,000 schools in India, as well as, about 200 schools in 25 other countries. Apart from school level examinations, CBSE is responsible for conducting a majority of National Level Competitive exams in India. CBSE adheres to the NCERT curriculum only.

A total of about 17000 schools are affiliated to CBSE:
The schools which are seeking permanent affiliation must follows the bylaws of the board in implementing the CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) based education system till Std. 8; No provisions of home work till Std 2; Proper Maintenance of Internal Assessment and Academic Record. Also the average result of the school for the last three years must not be less than the prescribed Board’s Average in the 10th and 12th Examination.
Exam Pattern and grading system (Class 12th)
The CBSE will be conducting the examination in theory as well as in practical as per the new prescribed syllabus. The marks or grades will be allotted to individual subjects and aggregate marks would be considered for the final percentage calculation. The marks or grades shall be awarded for individual subjects and aggregate marks will not be given.
Grading:
- Please note that the assessment of theory or practical papers in the external subjects will be in numerical scores. The grades will be indicated on the mark sheet.
- Qualifying marks for external examinations are as follows:
- 33% at the Secondary or Senior School Certificate Examinations
- 33% marks in theory
- 33% marks in the practical separately
- The board shall classify all the passing candidates in rank order and the candidates will be awarded grades in the following order:
- A1: Top 1/8th of the passing candidates
- A2: Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
- B1: Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
- B2: Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
- C1: Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
- C2: Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
- D1: Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
- D2: Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
- E: Failed Candidates
Passing Criteria:
- You will be given a passing certificate if you get a grade higher than E in all subjects.
- If you score less than E, then your result will be withheld for less than a year.
- You must score a minimum on 33% in all subjects in both theory and practical in order to be declared as passed.
- No overall division, distinction and aggregate would be awarded.
CBSE Syllabus
The CBSE syllabus has been declared for the new academic session. The revised CBSE Syllabus issued by a new circular is applicable for all the public schools affiliated to the CBSE including the Delhi administration schools, KVS and NVS. The very first step to be successful at anything is to get focused. You should have a plan and a fixed routine, in which you strike a balance between everything, depending on your strengths and weaknesses. Be judicious in deciding the time you put for your preparation, your sleep and other daily activities. Preparation Tips for Class 12
Mathematics:
- Practice, Practice, Practice, the best way to tackle Std. 12th CBSE Mathematics is by practising. It will definitely boost your confidence.
- You are advised to divide the time at your disposal, and it is highly recommended to focus on your weak areas. You can divide your time depending upon the total number of marks allotted to that topic and your level of understanding and proficiency in the same.

- Pay attention to numerical, which are often ignored by many.
English:
- Pay attention to grammar, especially tenses, your understanding matters here.
- Read a few books, for the reading section, so that you would be used to reading.
- Solve previous year’s paper and attempt all grammar based questions.
- For the writing section, remember to not exceed the word limit and you must stick to the format.
- For, Literature section, read the lessons multiple times and try to mention all the necessary points in the prescribed word limit. Also, make short summaries of the poems and extracts.
