NEET Eligibility – NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It is a national level examination which is responsible for the admission into MBBS and BDS courses. After qualifying this examination, you will be eligible to seek admission in various medical and dental colleges across the country. The NEET Eligibility criterion is prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The students are suggested to read the eligibility criterion very carefully. Important Points of NEET Eligibility
- A candidate can attempt the NEET examination for a maximum of three times. Those who have exhausted their three attempts will not be eligible to attempt the NEET examination.
- A candidate must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before the 31st of December 2018 i.e. his/her first year of MBBS/BDS.
- Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Foreign Nationals are eligible to appear for the NEET 2018.
- The maximum age limit for the NEET 2018 is 25 years and for those belonging to reserved categories, a relaxation of 5 years is observed.
- The candidates appearing for the class 12th examination in 2018 can also appear for the entrance test provisionally subject to their fulfilling the conditions later.
NEET Eligibility – Minimum marks in 12th Std.
The candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying examination. For students belonging to SC/ST or OBC category, a minimum of 40% marks must be obtained to be eligible for the NEET examination. For students with loco motor disability of Lower Limbs, minimum marks of 45% are required for General-PH. For SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH, a minimum of 40% marks are required.

Qualification along and qualification codes
Code 1: A candidate who is appearing for class 12th examination in 2018 and whose result is awaited can appear for the NEET 2018 but he/she is not eligible if he/she doesn’t pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentages.
Code 2: The candidates who have qualified their Higher or Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination that is equivalent to 10+2 Senior Secondary study after a period of 12 years education. They have to appear for the qualifying examination the subjects of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology/Bio-technology and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English that is prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.
Code 3: The Candidates who have done their higher secondary/Pre-degree Studies in Science from the Indian Board or Universities or other recognized examining body having Chemistry, Physics, Biology /Bio-technology and also English as a compulsory topic.
Code 4: Code 4 is for the candidates who qualify either Senior Secondary (12th) Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination and for those who have studied Pre-medical or Pre-professional Examination with PCB (Chemistry, Physics, and or Bio-technology Biology) and English as a compulsory topic.
Code 5: Applicants who are pursuing 3 years’ degree course from an authorized University with PCB provided that the examination is a Board or University Examination. Applicants who have passed their earlier qualifying studies with Chemistry, Physics, and Bio-technology or Biology with English at a level not less than a core course.
Code 6: Applicants who have passed their B.Sc. course from an Indian authorized University with not less than two of the subjects viz. Chemistry, Physics, Biology Bio-technology or (Botany, Zoology).
Code 7: Any other examination which in cope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian University/Board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects including practical tests in each subjects.
Eligibility for 85% state quota seats
All the students participating in the NEET 2018 will fill 85% state quota seats of MBBS/BDS through counselling, while the remaining 15% of the seats will be filled through All India centralised counselling. The following is the eligibility criterion for the 85% quota seats:
- Candidates must have completed/ appearing for his/her 10th and 12th from the state.
- Candidate must possess a valid domicile of the state.
- Candidate must have a residency proof of the state.
Eligibility for 15% All India Quota Seats:
Nationality:
- Candidate must be a citizen of India, NRI, PIOs, OCIs and Foreign Nationals.
For J&K, AP and Telangana State:
- Candidates who belong to J&K, AP and Telangana state are eligible for 15% All India Quota seats only for the admission to the AFMC, Pune on the basis of self declaration.
- Candidates from the states of J&K, AP, Telangana can appear for the NEET examination for admission to the private medical/Dental colleges or any private/deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC),Pune.
